Table combinations

Table Combinations allow you to merge two or more tables to accommodate larger parties. By defining these "joined" sets, the system understands exactly which tables can be pushed together and how many guests they can realistically seat.

Why Correct Grouping Matters

To keep your floor running efficiently, avoid putting all tables into a single large group (e.g., 1–30 guests).

  • The Risk: If a group of 4 guests searches for a table, the system might assign them a massive combination that could have seated 12.

  • The Solution: Create specific combinations for specific party sizes (e.g., a "Small Join" for 4–6 guests and a "Grand Join" for 10–14 guests).

How the Search Logic Works

When a guest searches for availability, the system follows this priority:

  1. Individual Tables: It first checks for a single, standalone table that fits the party.

  2. Same-Room Groups: If no single table fits, it looks for combinations within the same dining area.

  3. Online vs. Internal: The system only shows combinations to guests if "Online Bookings" is toggled ON.

Step-by-Step: Creating a Table Combination

  1. Access Settings: Log in to the V3 system at admin.tablein.com and open Table Combination Settings.

  2. Add New: Click the "Add table combination" button in the upper right corner.

  3. Name Your Group: Use a clear name (e.g., "Window Row – Tables 4+5").

  4. Set Visibility: Remove checkbox from Online Bookings if you want to save certain combinations for internal staff use only.

  5. Define Capacity: * Set the Minimum and Maximum guest count.

    • Pro Tip: If two 2-top tables can fit an extra chair at the end when joined, set your capacity to 4–5 guests.

  6. Select Tables: Choose the physical tables that make up this combination. The system will automatically calculate the base capacity at the bottom for your convenience.

  7. Save: Hit save, and your floor plan is now smarter!

Note: Tables are flexible! The same physical table can belong to multiple different combination groups.
